Vote counts for Ward 7 appointment

The votes were in this sequence:

Ward 6 Councilor Greg Evans nominated Lyndsie Leech and voted for her. The other councilors voting for Leech were:

Council deadlocks — voting again today

Here were the votes:

  • Barbie Walker: 3 yes votes to 4 no votes (same result in two rounds)
  • Lyndsie Leech: 3-4 (same results in two rounds)
  • Thomas Hiura: 2-5
  • Carol Zorn: 3-4
  • Janet Ayres: 2-5
  • Daniel Isaacson: 3-4

Applicants’ council interviews posted online

The seven city councilors interviewed five applicants the evening of Monday, December 5th. Each interview lasted 30 minutes and had the same seven questions presented. Each interview began with the applicant’s opening statement. Even if you don’t watch 2-1/2 hours of interviews, you can gain useful insight from viewing the few minutes of each opening statement.

Note: Applicants Lyndsie Leech and Carol Zorn have not answered any of the seven questions from the Steering Committee. Lyndsie Leech has advised the Steering Committee that she declines to respond to any questions. Carol Zorn has not responded to the Steering Committee request for an explanation for not engaging Ward 7 voters through the opportunities provided by Ward 7 Neighbors United.

Summary of applicants’ engagement with Ward 7 voters

The Steering Committee sent the following message to the seven city councilors who will appoint the Interim Ward 7 City Councilor.

Dear Mayor and City Councilors,

During the ongoing application and appointment process, Ward 7 Neighbors United provided multiple invitations for applicants to engage with Ward 7 voters.

Consistent with the goals of Ward 7 Neighbors United, we believe each applicant’s response (or lack of response) in the three regards listed below provide applicants’ actions, as well as their words, that city councilors should consider in deciding which applicant would best engage and effectively represent Ward 7 voters. 

Here is the summary of applicants’ engagement via the opportunities provided by Ward 7 Neighbors United:

Janet Ayres responded by the original deadlines to all invitations to engage, including:
* Submitted the Ward 7 Neighbors United form describing her reasons for applying.
* Signed the Petition to City Council for a transparent process that reflects the opinions of Ward 7 voters.
* Responded to all questions from Ward 7 voters that were presented to applicants.

Barbie Walker has responded to all invitations to engage, including:
* Submitted the Ward 7 Neighbors United form describing her reasons for applying. (December 3rd)
* Signed the Petition to City Council for a transparent process that reflects the opinions of Ward 7 voters.
* Responded by the original deadlines to all questions from Ward 7 voters that were presented to applicants.

Daniel Isaacson has responded as follows:
* Submitted the Ward 7 Neighbors United form describing his reasons for applying (December 1).
* Declined to sign the Petition to City Council for a transparent process that reflects the opinions of Ward 7 voters.
* Responded on December 1 to all questions from Ward 7 voters that were presented to applicants.

Flash! Council extends ballot deadline for Ward 7 applicant interviews

At their work session today, the City Council voted to allow any councilor to modify their “interview ballot” by adding or deleting the names of any of the eight applicants who met the requirements for appointment as Interim Ward 7 City Councilor. Councilors must submit any changes by 5:00 PM today, November 30th.
